Valuable Online Resources for Students

Valuable Online Resources for Students

As the end of Spring semester and this summer semester transitioned to fully online courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Georgia launched several initiatives and programs to help students adjust.

From Zoom, online assistance and meetings, and more—here are the top 3 online resources that emerged as most valuable to UGA students during this time.

ASPIRE Clinic

Since 2008, ASPIRE clinic has provided counseling and education services to the UGA community and has recently fully transitioned to telehealth services.

From July 13-17, the clinic is offering one-time 50 minute couple consultations via Zoom to “identify both the stressors and the positive coping strategies you and your partner are using.”

Remote Library Resources

As online courses may require research or heavy reading, access to in-person libraries is limited. However, UGA’s Libraries’ catalog of 400,000 full-text e-books, emergency access from the digital preservation consortium of 150 academic libraries allowed patrons to access to another 2 million titles.

E-books and videos are now also available to help faculty and students adjust to transitioning online.

The library also now offers contactless porch pick up for graduate students and faculty.

To access GALILEO@UGA databases use your UGA MyID, which gives you access to your library account in GIL-Find (the library catalog.)

UGA Zoom Accounts

UGA students can create your own Zoom account and log into that account using your UGA MyID. A Getting Started Guide, Recommended Tips for Secure Meetings, and Troubleshooting Tips are also available on the EITS Help Desk Knowledge base

Instructional videos and articles, as well as troubleshooting help, can also be found on Zoom’s website.

Each UGA unit has a contact for Zoom support. To find out the contact in your unit, please visit the Zoom Unit Contact listing or complete a Help Request.

Faculty and staff also have an account as part of UGA’s Zoom license.

To create a new account or to log into an existing account, just go to https://uga.zoom.us and click on “Sign In” using the familiar UGA CAS login form.

Follow these instructions to get access:

  1. Go to zoom.uga.edu

  2. Choose Sign In: Configure your account (CAS authentication will automatically put your account under your department’s sub-account where your IT staff can manage your account and provide support. If you change departments, your account will automatically be moved to the correct sub-account.)

  3. Sign in using your MyID credentials.

  4. Log in by choosing the “Sign in with SSO” option.
