2017 University of Georgia New Faculty Orientation
2017 University of Georgia New Faculty Orientation
UGA’s New Faculty Orientation took place on August 2nd at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The event, coordinated by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Center for Teaching and Learning, featured sessions on the university’s tripartite mission, University of Georgia traditions, remarks from Provost Pamela Whitten, as well as breakout sessions for faculty members to choose from. Following the end of the orientation events, President Jere Morehead made closing remarks at the end-of-day receptions. Finally, new faculty were taught to “call the Dawgs” by members of the UGA Cheer Squad.
Of the approximately 115 faculty welcomed, our very own Director of the Office of Online Learning, Stephen P. Balfour, was in attendance. Balfour came aboard earlier this year and has been working with the team to elevate student learning, engagement, and research in online courses, as well as increase graduate enrollments and enhance workforce development.
“The new faculty tour of Georgia clearly demonstrated the connection that the University of Georgia has to virtually every part of this state,” said Balfour, reflecting on his Orientation experience. “From our Extension service to all sectors of agriculture and agritourism to Public Service and Outreach’s work in partnership with the Department of Economic Development to build new industries in film and new small businesses across Georgia, I am completely stunned by the magnitude of impact that the University of Georgia has on the state.”
