UGA Ranked #2 Military Friendly Tier I Research University in the Nation
The University of Georgia has been ranked the No. 2 Military Friendly Tier I Research University in the Nation according to the 2019-2020 Military Friendly rankings. The Military Friendly Schools survey is the longest-running, most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military and veteran students. The 2019-2020 top schools list is more exclusive than ever, and it covers institutions offering certificate programs to doctoral degrees.
Military Friendly created a subset of ratings to reflect the extent to which each organization exceeds the benchmark standards including: academic policies and compliance, culture and commitment, graduation and career, etc. For every category listed, UGA surpassed expectations far above the military friendly standard. Culture and commitment standards was the University of Georgia’s highest achieving standard reaching 97.44 percent, a nearly perfect score.
The University of Georgia founded the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) in the spring of 2013 in order to formalize its approach to serving the University’s military-affiliated population. Organized around three integrated themes (enabling access, easing transition and facilitating readiness), the SVRC helps to focus University efforts on a variety of value-added programs/services. These programs and services are intended to address the most pressing needs of our military-affiliated population.
Today, UGA’s support to the military-affiliated population is orchestrated through a combination of partnerships and innovative practices (i.e. Orientation, Persistent Coaching, Affinity Groups, Scholarships), which are increasingly harmonized through the Center. The foundation of the SVRC lies in its commitment to student veteran success.
The University of Georgia was approved for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and has committed to the 8 Keys to Veterans’ Success. In addition to these government programs, we have signed the VA’s Principles of Excellence for serving veterans and service members. UGA also offers Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA) Funding as well as DOD Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Tuition Assistance. We are committed to educational excellence as a military friendly University.
