Professor

I teach because I find great fulfillment in fostering learning and growth in students. Over the years, I’ve realized that education is not just about imparting knowledge—it’s about empowering students to think critically, solve problems, and reach their full potential. Watching students transform, whether through engaging lectures, collaborative projects, or mentoring, is incredibly rewarding. Ultimately, my passion lies in helping them discover their strengths and achieve their goals.

I believe teaching should be student-centered, creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel valued and inspired to engage. Every student learns differently, so I use diverse teaching methods—lectures, technology, hands-on activities, and real-world applications—to ensure that all students can connect with the material. I aim to foster a classroom culture where students feel empowered to ask questions, explore ideas, and grow in their understanding.

I see learning as a two-way street; while I teach, my students inspire me to grow and evolve as an educator. Over the past 40 years, I have dedicated my career to helping students reach their potential, and nothing brings me greater joy than seeing them thrive and achieve their goals.

I want students to develop a lifelong appreciation for learning and realize their capability to push boundaries. I aim to inspire them to recognize their potential while fostering a genuine passion for discovery. I also strive to show students the real-world relevance of what they are learning, particularly in statistics, where data-driven insights are central to many fields.

Mentorship is one of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching. I’m passionate about guiding students in both their academic and personal development. Many of my students have gone on to make significant contributions in academia, industry, and beyond, and watching them succeed affirms the transformative power of education and mentorship.

With over 40 years of experience teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses, I’ve come to appreciate that teaching is about cultivating curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for learning. As a researcher in statistics, I bridge the gap between research and teaching, bringing cutting-edge developments and real-world applications into the classroom. This integration helps students see the dynamic nature of the field and inspires them to pursue their intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills.
