Being a good data scientist requires continually developing your skills as your career progresses.

Paul Schliekelman

Associate Professor

I love using computers and data to figure out cool things and I love teaching others to do that as well.
I spend a lot of my time in working with biologists to develop statistical methods to answer interesting questions from their data. I love the process of figuring out how to get the information out of the data that can answer important scientific questions.

In this program I teach a course on computer programming for data science. Programming is a thing that you learn primarily by doing. Thus, my goal is to get students the knowledge and basic skills that they need to start exploring in programming on their own.

Being a good data scientist requires continually developing your skills as your career progresses. I hope that students will leave my class with a solid foundation in programming that they can build on to grow in whatever direction their career takes them.
