Instructional Designer
Duncan Lord has worked in instructional design and technology for seven years. Before joining the Office of Online Learning as an Instructional Designer, he supported learning technologies at the University’s Center for Teaching and Learning and served as the Presentation Collaboratory Fellowship Coordinator with the Office of Student Success and Achievement. Prior to his work in higher education, he was a high school band director and curriculum writer.
He holds a B.Mus. in Music Education, an M.Ed. in Learning, Design, and Technology, and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Learning, Design, and Technology; all from the University of Georgia. His research explores the design of learning experiences in higher education through the lens of 4E cognition, focusing on how it can inform instructional design and produce authentic and relevant learning experiences to prepare pre-professional students for their careers.
In addition to his work in education, Duncan has worked as a process improvement and employee onboarding consultant for healthcare insurance and clinical organizations. He also developed an online content strategy for a real estate agent and led curriculum development and accreditation for a UI/UX education firm, both drawing upon his expertise in web design. Duncan is a supporter of learning experience design—an approach that prioritizes not just the effectiveness and efficiency of education, but also the engagement and usability of the learning experience, ensuring meaningful and relevant experiences for students.
