How to Help Your Career While Studying Online

How to Help Your Career While Studying Online

Reaching new career goals is an aspiration for many online students. Finishing your bachelor’s degree or getting a masters degree in your field can help you qualify for new positions in your field. Besides the obvious, there are many ways that being an online student can help your career.

1. Access your career center.  While you are enrolled at UGA, you have access to the UGA career center. They have many great career resources available for online students, which you can read about on our page. You also have access to a career consultant from your college that can answer any questions you might have about your job prospects!

2. Sell your University. If you are attending UGA, you are probably aware of how renowned it is, but you should make sure your potential employers do too! Online classes at UGA are just as rigorous as on campus classes, and will be just as impressive to employers.

3. Show how well you manage time. Online classes take very intricate time management. If you are working and taking classes, or raising children while taking classes, tell your potential employers. This will show them that you know how to fit your career into your life.

4. Grow your network. Many times, you and your online classmates are already working in the industry you are studying. They can be a great contact when you are job searching. You should also stay connected to classmates who may not be employed in your preferred industry yet, because you never know where they will end up. Your professors are also  great industry contacts who would love to help you.
