Online Students Can Use Class Discussion Boards to Their Advantage!

Even though online classes might never meet in person, the students are still communicating with one another on discussion boards. These online boards are a great way for students to get to know one another and facilitate discussion with professors. US News and World Report shared 5 tips to make the most of online class discussion boards.

1. Read directions: It might seem simple, but just following the directions is very important on discussion boards. Only use the board to talk about what the professor has set them up for. It is also important to look to the directions and make sure each post is the correct length and topic.

2. Say something substantive: If you are going to take the time to post something for your class and professor to see, make sure it is worth their time. Also, it helps to take the time to cite anything you use in a discussion board to back up any arguments you might make.

3. Don’t procrastinate: If you wait to make your posts until it is almost the deadline, you will not be able to participate in the class discussion in the same way. Someone might have already said what you were planning on saying. You can also go back and respond to any criticisms of your post if you start early enough.
