Special Collections Libraries Gifted and Creative Education Materials Grow
Materials about the U.S. Presidential Scholars, now complement the UGA Special Collections Library’s existing collection highlighting gifted education. The U.S. Presidential Scholars program honors gifted high school seniors that show talent in the creative fields. Only up to 141 students are selected for this award annually and It is one of the highest honors a high school student can achieve. Past recipients of the award have formed the Presidential Scholars Alumni Association in an effort to make the achievement a lifelong experience.
The first five classes of Presidential Scholars were the subject of UGA faculty Felice Kaufmann. Kaufmann is an expert in gifted and creative learning. She continues to research the lives of the Presidential Scholars Alumni Association to see how a gifted and creative childhood affects them throughout their lives.
The alumni donated the materials in June and they will be housed in the university archives in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. Photos, scrapbooks, and other related materials are part of the collection.
