I believe that a greater sensitivity and inquiry into race and gender dynamics will allow students to fully grasp the complexities of teaching in America in the 21st century.

Amy Murphy, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

In my own research, which focuses on middle school and adolescents, I explore the ways in which content and teaching must be married to bridge the divide amongst students of different backgrounds and abilities. How does one engage and connect with diverse students? How can classroom teachers instill the important values of respect and responsibility in students on the cusp of adulthood? These are crucial questions for teachers in today’s classroom, ones with which I engage my own students at every opportunity.
