Deconstructing knowledge into simple blocks then re-assembling them into a narrative, a conversation, or a game (homework) is an exhilarating process. But the real driving force is the students: how they receive, resonate, collaborate, and develop is the greatest adventure.

Lynn M. Abdouni, Ph.D.

Instructor and Associate Research Scientist

The centerpiece of my research is place-making, which depends upon integrating nature, water, buildings, infrastructure, and people. Each place is akin to a unique fabric, woven with its own distinct characters and quirks—a dynamic system of interconnected elements. The excitement of uncovering a place’s layers is matched only by tailoring solutions that resonate with its essence. The end-to-end process is seldom seamless or straightforward, and what I particularly relish is the pursuit of creative functionality over perfection.

My main goal is igniting enthusiasm around the content material, because it is a surefire way to ensure life-long development. Building enthusiasm is a collective exercise: I expect students to deploy their experiences, perspectives, and beliefs to acquire the concepts on their own terms. While I cannot possibly cover everything I would like in class, I aim to equip my students with the skills (and hopefully drive) to keep growing long after our time together ends.

I abhor the word ‘confused’ but have limitless patience for everything else.
