Associate Director of the Online MS in Applied Data Science Program
Data science is exciting because it brings together statistics, computing, and problem-solving to tackle important challenges across so many industries, from healthcare to finance and technology. What excites me most is helping students realize that data science is accessible to anyone, even those with only basic math skills. By connecting machine learning and analytics to real-world problems, I help students see that these complex topics can be incredibly approachable and practical.
I teach because I truly believe education can change lives and I’ve seen it happen. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping students build practical skills in data science and then watching them thrive professionally. My passion is making complex technical concepts accessible and showing students, no matter their background, that they belong in this field.
My teaching philosophy is built on the belief that every student can learn when given the right support and opportunities. I focus on building skills step-by-step, connecting new ideas to what students already know. I strive to make data science approachable through clear explanations, hands-on projects, and consistent feedback. Ultimately, my goal is to help students build confidence, develop effective learning strategies, and grow into adaptable, capable professionals ready to succeed in an ever-evolving field.
I want students to leave my classes not just with technical skills, but with the confidence to apply them effectively in the real world, regardless of their prior background. My hope is they gain a strong foundation in data science, practical problem-solving abilities, and the understanding that they have the capacity to continue learning and growing throughout their entire careers.
Before joining UGA, I taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students at Iowa State University in mathematics, data science, and business analytics. I worked with students on applied projects that connected coursework to real world challenges, an experience that continues to shape my focus on practical, student centered learning today.
Outside of my academic work, I enjoy taking road trips and long drives with my family, exploring different parts of the country. I also find gardening to be a relaxing way to unwind, especially when I’m growing vegetables. At home, you’ll often find me watching action movies or anime with my kids. These moments away from work help me recharge and bring balance to my life.
