Mi G. Chorzepa, PhD, PE, LEED AP, and F. ACI

Professor

Prior to joining UGA, I worked in the private sector as an engineer and consultant at Chicago Bridge & Iron, Inc. I am also LEED certified and a professional engineer, and completed my Ph.D in Structural Engineering at the Washington University in Saint Louis, MO. My current research interests are in structural analysis and design, materials modeling, and sustainable building design.

The field of civil engineering is constantly evolving with new technologies and materials. Teaching civil engineering involves staying on the cutting edge of these developments and preparing students to think critically, solve complex problems, and empower themselves and future generations.

I hope that my classes will allow students to gain real-world project experiences while also mastering a commitment strategy. If you remain committed to completing the program, you will find new talents and friends, and ultimately be rewarded.

Continuous Improvement, Commitment, Empathy, and Empowerment are the tenets of my teaching philosophy. I aim to understand the challenges students might face and provide encouragement to help them overcome these obstacles. Additionally, I hope to empower students to take ownership of their learning journey, and be confident that it will shape their future significantly.

I used to work in Seattle, Houston, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago. I now live in Royston, Georgia, comfortably situated by a riverfront with cows, chickens, and coyotes as my neighbors. My human neighbors often refer to the area as ‘dark and poor.’ However, I appreciate being able to see the stars in the sky. I have observed that my neighbor, who purchased land and built his own house, appears much happier than a friend of mine in Chicago, who is burdened with a 30-year mortgage. It’s evident that happiness and wealth are relative concepts. I find joy in exploring nature, diverse subjects, and understanding different perspectives.

I live happily with an electrical and computer engineer who has precise specifications for cooking and solar power usage. We engineers love specs and precision, don’t we?
