5 Apps to Ease Your Nerves During Finals Season

As we move into finals season, many students find it overwhelming to keep up with changing course workloads and their professional work while attempting to manage a work/life balance. Wouldn’t it be great if there was an app for that? While there isn’t one app that can manage your life completely, we have a few that might ease your nerves and help manage your time:

1. Evernote — Free | Available on iOS, Android, Desktop

Instead of typing all of your notes in a Word document or a Google Doc, try Evernote! With Evernote, you can add links, checklists, tables, attachments and audio recordings to your notes and keep everything in one place. You can even import handwritten notes, and the best part is they’re searchable. Want to share your notes with a classmate? Add them as a collaborator and you can work together.

2. WaterMinder — $2.99 | Available on iOS, Android

Studies show that when people are stressed, their water intake decreases. Decreased hydration can negatively affect one’s physical and mental health. WaterMinder combats this by giving you an estimate of your water intake needs based on your physical characteristics. Throughout the day, the app sends reminders to drink water to reach the daily goals and lets you know how much water you’ve drank.

3. Todoist — Free | Available on iOS, Android, Desktop

If you constantly think of things you need to do but also immediately forget them, try Todoist. Todoist is a personal task manager allowing you to create to do lists anywhere you are and you can even set recurring tasks. After putting in the task, Todoist will send you reminders of the task and show you progress if you use checklists. Have an Amazon Echo in your house? When something comes to mind, just say, “Alexa, add a task to my Todoist.”

4. Brainscape — Free | Available on iOS, Android

If you have a lot of vocabulary, important facts, etc. to remember, flashcards are a great option. However, physical flashcards are hard to take with you everywhere. Try Brainscape, an app that offers smart flashcards using methods to memorize information faster, such as active recall, metacognition and spaced repetition. You can even share your card decks with your classmates!

5. Spotify — Free | Available on iOS, Android, Desktop

It’s proven that listening to music can have a profound effect on our physical and mental state. Studying? Try listening to calm, quieter classical music that slows your heart rate and lowers your blood pressure. Pumping yourself up before an exam? Try a workout playlist that’s designed to get your blood pumping and those endorphins moving. And there’s a student discount. Sign up with your UGA email address and get a discounted premium service with no ads and unlimited playlists.
