The Benefits of Attending Graduation in Person as an Online Student

Attending the commencement ceremony in person offers you the opportunity to meet your virtual classmates and professors, and to experience the pride of graduation with other University of Georgia students. You’re a Dawg, after all, and you deserve the same celebration that all other students receive. You’ve worked hard to achieve your degree– why not go big?
The commencement ceremony for graduate students will be Friday May 5 at 10 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum and the undergraduate ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in Sanford Stadium. Marshall Shepherd, an international expert in weather, will be the graduate ceremony’s commencement speaker. Ernie Johnson, a sportscaster for Turner and CBS Sports will be the undergraduate commencement speaker this year.
Academic regalia is required for participation in all UGA ceremonies. Students attending classes online or outside of Athens can order academic regalia by calling 706-542-7224. You can also purchase them in person at the UGA Bookstore if you are in town. When ordering, be sure to know your height, approximate weight, major and degree. Undergraduates will need to order an additional tassel if you are graduating with honors.
For more information about caps, gowns, diplomas and announcements, go to the UGA Bookstore’s website. And for more information about either the undergraduate or graduate commencement ceremonies, check the official UGA Commencement website.
