Creating a Productive Home Study Space

Creating a Productive Home Study Space

It’s difficult as an online student to find a place to study and complete assignments. If you have kids, you know storage is limited and kids’ things are everywhere. However, for online students, a nice study space is a necessity. Follow these five tips to create the best home study space and make it perfect for you!

Have a little bit of noise

Have you ever wondered why studying in your favorite coffee shop can be so productive? Surprisingly enough, a space that is too quiet is not always best for a focused task, especially one that involves creativity. Music without lyrics boosts learning and productivity. Put on some classical tunes or turn on a TV show for some background noise.

Keep study materials close by

Your study space should be complete with books, flashcards and whatever else you need for class. It can disrupt your routine if you are in the middle of studying and have to take half an hour to search the house for a textbook. Having everything within arms reach keeps you on task. Put all of your textbooks on a shelf by your desk as well as electronics you need.

Use air fresheners

Scents can help stimulate your mind. Lemon or cinnamon scents promote concentration and peppermint helps with clear thinking. Lavender decreases stress and anxiety. Use an essential oil diffuser, candle or air freshener in your study space. As an added bonus, smelling the same thing while studying and taking a test can aid in recalling information!

Have natural light

Having a home study space filled with natural light promotes better sleep, improves quality of life and boosts happiness. Situate your desk by a window with a view and leave your window blinds open. If you prefer fluorescent lights, add lamps and string lights to make the lighting less harsh on your eyes.

Add some color

Numerous studies have shown how color affects our mood and productivity. Bright reds and oranges boosts energy, excitement and creativity. Blues and greens have a calming effect and relaxes the mind. Add pops of color with office supplies, decor and furniture. Choose colors that will help you study and be productive in your home study space.
