Georgia Magazine Features Valerie Boyd, Director of Narrative Nonfiction
Congratulations to Valerie Boyd, one of the the bright minds behind UGA’s MFA in Narrative Media Writing Low-Residency program, for being featured in a wonderful article written by Allyson Mann in Georgia Magazine! Boyd has worked diligently the past few years alongside Nate Kohn to build up the Narrative Media Writing program at UGA, in hopes that she can “bridge the false divide” — as the article is titled — between journalism and literature.
After being a journalist for nearly 20 years, Boyd was asked to write a book proposal about one of her inspirations, Zora Neale Hurston. The career-defining book, “Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston,” then set Boyd on a journey to create the Low Residency degree in order to help students learn not only how to write well, but to understand the practical process behind the business.
Read more about Valerie Boyd on the online June issue of Georgia Magazine or on her faculty bio on the UGA Online website.
