Guest Blog: Library Services for Distance Learners
If you’re new to distance education classes or simply want to know what sort of assistance the libraries provide, here are some of the services that are available to currently-enrolled UGA distance learners:
Delivery Services
The libraries provide delivery services for Georgia and out-of-state residents. We’ll send book chapter and print only articles to you via email. Book delivery services vary depending on your location. The distance learning page on the UGA Libraries’ website summarizes our services and how to use them.
Research Assistance
Whether you need an introduction to available library resources or you simply want to locate a book or an article, we’re here to assist you. Call us at 706 52-3251, email us at mainref@uga.edu, or chat with us using the “Chat with a Librarian” link on the libraries’ homepage.
In-depth Instruction
Each academic discipline has a designated librarian. Your subject-area specialist can assist you by providing in-depth research assistance. If you are in the Athens area, you can request a face-to-face research conference. If not, you can arrange to talk by phone or you can chat with your subject specialist. Visit our subjects webpage to find your subject area specialist. Don’t hesitate to call to schedule a phone/chat session!
Access Issues
If you are having problems logging in or you are encountering pay-walls when you search, let us help you! We can help you figure out what the problem is and find ways to resolve your problem.
Citation Assistance/ Citation Management Tools
The UGA Libraries provide resources and services to assist you in citing materials for your papers and projects. RefWorks and EndNote are two citation management tools provided through the UGA Student Technology Fee and the UGA Libraries. Both RefWorks and EndNote allow you to keep track of and organize your references, then easily use those references to create citations and bibliographies in word processing software such as Word or Google Docs. Sign up for instruction on the UGA Libraries’ website.
