MFA Graduate Rebecca Jackson-Artis Launches Screenwriting Career with Web Series
Low-Residency MFA in Media Writing, Screenwriting graduate Rebecca Jackson-Artis, found success in her original web series, Totally Becky. The comedic web series has won best web series at the Middle Coast Film Festival and has been selected to screen at the Charlotte Film Festival, the Shreveport Urban Film Festival, the Gary International Black Film Festival and a world premier at the Canadian Diversity Film Festival.
Totally Becky is a web series about a black woman named Rebecca Mason-Happ who has to return to corporate America for income after years of being a stay-at-home mom. She finds difficulties in stopping herself from letting the world know how cognitive dissonance is in America. Jackson-Artis is the lead actress, screenwriter and producer of Totally Becky.
The comedic series was created on February 2, 2018 and the first season is set to be released to the public by January 2019. In the first episode, “Lacking Lactation,” Rebecca is a lactation consultant at a community health clinic and learns she isn’t reaching the community the conventional way. The series is now working on its second and third episode.
