Online Music Education Faculty Brings Local Teacher and Students to UGA
Dr. Legette, faculty member of the new online Master in Music Education program, was recently involved in an on campus event that brought together music education students and local children. Rachel Osborne, music teacher at Whit Davis Elementary School brought her students to the UGA School of Music to do a teaching presentation to Dr. Legette’s elementary music methods class. Both the elementary and college students were able to learn from Mrs. Osborne during the program. The music education students participated in the activities with the children. Dr. Legette said that with this program “benefits would be two-fold. Our students would be able to see her work with her kids and ask her questions on the spot. They would not be able to do this if they were in the school.” Opportunities like this help the students at UGA and at local elementary schools and are possible because of a strong partnership with the university and public school system. With this partnership comes Superintendent Dr. Phil Lanoue’s goal of getting every Clarke County School student on to the University of Georgia campus at least once before they graduate. The students in Mrs. Osborne’s class were able to have a unique experience on campus that they, as well as the college students, will not soon forget.
