UGA Online Professor to Release Book About Bilingual Learners
May 5, 2016A book telling the compelling story of the challenges and opportunities of teaching science to English learners is scheduled for release in fall of 2016. Currently in the process of being published, the book is titled “Supporting K–12 English Language Learners in Science: Putting Research into Teaching Practice.” One of the book’s authors is Cory Buxton, a faculty member in the online M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education.
Alumna Profile: Demetrice Bryant’s Adult Ed Degree and Its Impact on Her Life
May 3, 2016Since Demetrice Bryant completed her online Master of Adult Education in 2014, she has used it to further her career within the Office of Research Administration at Emory University, which involves providing training and communication services for the office. In addition to the career boosts the degree has provided her, Bryant enjoyed the training she received in specific courses within the degree, and benefited from getting to know her professors very well.

Online Learning Fellows Guide Faculty on How to Develop Online Courses
April 29, 2016In January 2016, the Office of Online Learning launched its latest round of the Online Learning Fellows (OLF) program. This program, targeted primarily at UGA faculty teaching online for the first time, sought to guide these faculty members through the planning and creation of online courses. The program consisted of an online course blended with face-to-face instruction, which highlighted the importance of thoughtful course design that informs instructors on how to use specific tools within eLC. The instructional designers at the Office of Online Learning worked closely with over 50 faculty members from nine different colleges to design and develop undergraduate-level courses to be delivered during the Summer 2016 semester.
UGA Online Reading Ed Professor Appointed to Literacy Research Panel
April 28, 2016Donna Alvermann, professor in the online Master of Education in Reading Education program, has been appointed to the International Literacy Association's (ILA) Literacy Research Panel (LRP) for a three-year term. She will also start her two-year appointment as the "Policy and Practice: Remix" columnist for the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy.
UGA Online Professors Awarded International Education Awards
April 26, 2016The Office of International Education honored two UGA Online Learning faculty and staff members at its annual International Education Awards Reception April 7 at the State Botanical Garden, with five other honorees. The annual event honors faculty and staff who have made outstanding contributions to the university's internationalization through instruction, research and service.
