Top 5 Reasons for Online Students to Participate in Commencement

Graduation day is coming up soon and all of UGA’s spring graduates are preparing for the big day. Graduating with your online degree from the University of Georgia is no small feat and you’ve more than earned a trip to Athens for the big ceremony. It’s an accomplishment to be proud of and an event to share with your family and friends. Celebrate in person with your classmates and teachers as part of the UGA community.

You worked really hard to complete your degree! Maybe you had to juggle school with your job, family, and life in general. You faced the challenges and came out on top, it’s time to celebrate!

Attending the commencement ceremony offers you the opportunity to meet your virtual classmates and professors in person.

It’s a great opportunity to network and meet your fellow Dawgs. If you’re worried that you won’t know anyone at the ceremony, don’t. You’re a Dawg now and your fellow grads are ready to chat and share in the excitement.

Graduation is a wonderful way to share a very special moment with your loved ones. Though you’ll be sitting in your designated area during the ceremony, you’ll have plenty of time throughout the day to catch up with all of the people that matter most to you. Show your support system just how much you appreciate them.

Graduation is fun! Being in the crowd and experiencing the collective excitement of your peers can be quite rewarding.

The Details:

The commencement ceremony for graduate students will be Friday, May 4, 2018 at 9:30am in Stegeman Coliseum and the undergraduate ceremony will be at 7:00pm in Sanford Stadium. Lady Antebellum members & UGA alumni Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood will deliver the fall undergraduate Commencement address, while Dr. Denise Spangler, newly-appointed dean of the College of Education, will deliver the Commencement address at the graduate ceremony.

Academic regalia is required for participation in all UGA ceremonies. Students attending classes online or outside of Athens can order academic regalia by calling 706-542-7224. You can also purchase them in person at the UGA Bookstore if you are in town. When ordering, be sure to know your height, approximate weight, major and degree. Undergraduates will need to order an additional tassel if you are graduating with honors.
