UGA Online Faculty Member to Collaborate with Department of Defense Research

A UGA Online faculty member, Dr. Bonnie Cramond, is involved with research with the Department of Defense. Cramond is an educational psychology professor and will be part of a team from the University of Georgia College of Education that analyze gifted education programs in US Department of Defense schools. The team from UGA will help give new goals for the schools to try and reach. Dr. Cramond is looking forward to the challenge, saying  “It is very interesting working with the military schools.  They face some challenges that other schools don’t face, and of course, have some unique opportunities, too.” 

The research will take place over the next year, during which, the team will be traveling to some schools in America and in some of the overseas schools, like South Korea.  Seeing the different sites is important because of the consistency that is needed with the gifted program in the Department of Defense schools.  Dr. Cramond said that “The military schools must make a special effort to ensure continuity of curriculum and equal quality of services for students from one site to the next.  They must educate a very diverse group of students who are also under stress because of the moves and parental deployment.  On the other hand, they have a wonderfully diverse group of students who often have experiences living in different places around the country and the world.  These students bring a richness of experience and knowledge with them.”
