The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has altered how people are living their day-to-day lives, and this is no exception for the thousands of University of Georgia faculty and students. However, as students have traded in classrooms for their laptops, members of the UGA community are finding unique ways to help connect students to the University of Georgia’s campus virtually.
Here are some ways students and faculty have adapted to the circumstances.
UGA Campus Zoom Backgrounds
Zoom meetings and lectures have become the new normal. Spice up your meetings and show your spirit with virtual Zoom backgrounds of UGA’s campus. Swap your home office for Sanford Stadium or North Campus, and share some UGA flavor while at home.
Draw away your stress with online Sketching UGA videos available on Youtube. Professor Amitabh Verma introduces the process and fundamentals of architectural sketching and takes viewers through the process of sketching iconic structures like the UGA Arch and Chapel.
In response to the cancelation of spring commencement on May 8th, several undergraduate students have taken it upon themselves to rebuild the ceremony virtually. This group of students, led by Ivan Campbell, has created a virtual rendering of Sanford Stadium in Minecraft.
“Sanford Stadium is where you graduate at our school, so it’s kind of important for that to be there since we can’t be at the real Sanford Stadium right now. So we figured why not just recreate it and we can just have a little taste of that in our Minecraft,” Campbell said.
BeWellUGA, created by the University Health Center, has recently formed BeWellUGA At Home, offering free daily virtual yoga and mindfulness sessions. BeWellUGA’s live mindfulness sessions are offered every day at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., while yoga is offered every day at 12:00 p.m. There are also several mindfulness recordings focused on how to deal with stressful times.
Virtual Walking Tour of UGA
If you are missing campus or are a fully online student, get connected to campus and learn the history behind some of the University’s most famous landmarks and buildings with a virtual walking tour of UGA available on Youtube.
UGA Online Student Resources
UGA Online has created several Youtube playlists full of student resources and tips to enhance students' online learning experience. The Youtube channel also features a wide array of videos featuring advice from Professors and information on how these professors have adapted their courses to teaching online.
