Overview

Today’s businesses and organizations require professionals in adult education who can easily adapt to a moving, shifting landscape. Graduates of the Master of Education in Learning, Leadership, and Organization Development (LLOD) program, offered through the University of Georgia Mary Frances Early College of Education, use their deep knowledge and skills to lead learning and change to help individuals, teams, and organizations maximize their potential across multiple disciplines.

What makes our program unique is the curriculum that gives you, as a student, depth of knowledge in your chosen discipline as well as a deeper understanding of the systems within your organization. At the same time, you will receive training that crosses boundaries in broad areas such as interpersonal and organizational skills, teamwork, communication and critical thinking for an overall mastery of adult education.

Our unique LLOD Guiding Framework emphasizes the theory and practice needed to strategically and holistically develop healthy sustainable organizations. Our  graduates do this though mastrey of multiple areas, including:

Accreditations

The University of Georgia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. The University of Georgia also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Admissions

Credit and Transfer

Total Hours Required to Earn Degree:  33 (credit hours)

Maximum Hours Transferable into Program:  6

With proper approval, six semester hours of graduate credit may be transferred onto the student’s program of study. A request for transfer of credit cannot be made until a student has been admitted to UGA as a prospective candidate for a degree. The transfer credit must be included on the program of study.

Courses to be transferred onto a graduate student transcript must meet the following requirements: taken at an accredited institution, falls within the 6 year course time limit, received a grade of B or better, and not used to fulfill requirements for another degree.

Admission Requirements

Students applying to The University of Georgia must be accepted by the Graduate School. Persons holding a bachelor’s degree from any institution accredited by the proper regional accrediting association are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School.

Application Checklist

  1. Application – Submit the Graduate School Admissions. Application fee: $75 Domestic & International.
  2. Select Campus – Online
  3. Select Intended Program – MED, Leadership, and Organization Development (Lifelong Ed, Admin, and Policy) [MED_LLOD_ONL] 
  4. Statement of Purpose – Submit a one-page statement of purpose online to the Graduate School. The statement of intent should clarify the candidate’s relevant background, interests, and goals in relation to the program.
  5. Letters of Recommendation – Submit two letters of recommendation online to the graduate school. Letters should be from individuals who can evaluate the applicant’s scholarly ability and potential for success in a graduate program. Preferably at least two of them are from faculty who have instructed the applicant in a previous program of study.
  6. Résumé or curriculum vita – Submit in the graduate school application.
  7. Transcripts – Submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Send official transcripts after you are offered admission.

Domestic Applicants 

  • Fall:  June 1

International Applicants

  • Fall:  April 15
  • International applicants must also submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Cost

Tuition & Fees

Tuition rates and student fees may change each year.

Based on the 2024-25 credit-hour cost, a person who had completed this program at the recommended pace would have paid $21,285 in tuition. Reference this sheet to identify the current credit hour rate for your program of interest.

Please use the Estimated Cost Calculator on the Bursar’s Office website to calculate one academic (Fall/Spring) year’s tuition. 

This program is an E-Rate program, so choose “yes” for the E-Rate line item within the calculator.

Fees for those students enrolled in exclusively online programs are $411 per semester.

Curriculum

LLOD Program Structure

Geared towards mid-career professionals (with at least 3-5 years of experience) who want to further studies and expand their career opportunities, our highly ranked two-year program offers flexible options for working professionals. Our supportive world-renowned faculty use innovative, experiential teaching methods that allow you to directly apply what is learned in practice. Additionally, the learning community that is purposefully crafted allows you to network with peers and engage in compelling instruction that brings concepts to life. Through coursework, a real-world based project, and interactions with faculty and other students, this program develops professionals who conduct-evidence based practice to address pressing challenges by applying theory and practice of learning and change.

Courses

No campus visits are required.  All coursework and assignments are conducted online. When students follow the required sequence, the program can be completed in two years.

You’ll build skills and knowledge in coursework across four core areas:

  • Framing of LLOD (1 course)
  • Personal mastery and research/evidence-based practice (2 courses)
  • Adult learning (1 course)
  • Theory and practice of organization development and change (2 courses)
  • Design and development of interventions to develop people and organizations (5 courses from options based on your experience and goals)

 In addition to 33 credits of coursework, participants must complete:

  • A portfolio
  • A final oral exam
