Lecturer / Program Coordinator
I teach because I believe art is a powerful vehicle for personal expression, critical reflection, and social connection. Teaching allows me to empower students to find their voices, make meaning through creative processes, and engage with the world in thoughtful and transformative ways. What makes me passionate about teaching is witnessing students’ growth, both artistically and personally, as they gain confidence, explore diverse perspectives, and challenge themselves to think deeply.
My teaching philosophy centers on creating student-centered, inclusive learning environments that nurture intrinsic motivation, creativity, and critical thinking. I encourage students to explore diverse artistic perspectives and contemporary practices that broaden their worldviews and support meaning-making in art. I also guide students in building confidence and engaging with critical issues in art education through conceptual, contextual, and practical approaches. Rooted in the values of empowering student voice, embracing diversity, and promoting collaboration, my teaching fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.
I hope students in my art education classes gain the confidence to express their unique voices through art, while developing critical and creative thinking skills. I want them to see art as a powerful tool for exploring personal, cultural, and social perspectives. My goal is to cultivate an inclusive and collaborative environment where diversity is honored, and students feel empowered to take creative risks, engage in deep reflection, and connect their learning to real-world contexts.
My primary research interest is on empowering culturally and linguistically diverse young learners’ voices and stories. To enable this research interest, I intend to pursue technology-based art education, interdisciplinary research that prioritizes STEAM, choice- and play-based early childhood art education, and visual culture based on the pedagogical aspects of culturally responsive pedagogy and community engagement, supporting global inclusion, diversity, and social justice in art education.
