Laura Shubert Spreads the Love of Online Learning to her Children
Laura Shubert knew it was risky to take time off to raise her young children. But there was something she could do to ensure that she would be a competitive job candidate once she returned to the workforce: complete her degree. She had previously begun her BBA and knew that completing her degree would give her the credentials future employers desired in applicants. Laura needed a program that would accommodate her busy family schedule, and she says that she was excited to learn that she could complete her BBA degree at the University of Georgia in a completely online format.
Laura has 10 years of experience in the insurance industry, and she says that the Online BBA’s challenging curriculum has allowed her to maintain her technology, analytical, marketing, and management skills while raising her family. She also notes that the General Business major has provided her with a wide realm of knowledge and skills applicable to any area of business. While she might return to insurance, she feels equipped to take her knowledge of financial reporting, statistical analysis, and economic development to new fields.
The decision to stay home to raise her two daughters has been an exceptionally gratifying choice for Laura. She loves that she has been able to both fulfill her educational goals and care for her children in the comfort of her home. She has even recruited her daughters as online learners: “I have signed them up for some online learning programs for pre-kindergarten children; so many times, the three of us are on our laptops ‘working’.” Laura has also been able to connect with other Online BBA students who are parents as well. The support she has received from her peers, her advisor, and her family have made all the difference in her journey to degree completion. Laura looks forward to the upcoming year when she will finally complete her BBA degree!
