Online Graduate Degree Helps Veterinary Professional Expand Expertise

Meet Michelle KovacekAlumni Michelle Kovacek Headshot

Michelle Kovacek is a veterinarian professional with more than 18 years of experience. Before pursuing her graduate degree, Michelle studied sustainability and veterinary technology. She has been a licensed Veterinary Technician Nurse since 2010.

Currently, Michelle works at Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health within the Regulatory Affairs Pharmaceuticals North America department. Her unique skill set allows her to combine clinical knowledge with health regulatory expertise.

Why UGA Online?

Michelle shared how UGA’s top rankings in pharmacy and regulatory affairs were influential in her decision to pursue a M.S. in Pharmacy, International Biomedical Regulatory Sciences (IBRS).

She also added a graduate certificate in Clinical Trials Design and Management. She was drawn to IBRS because it included both veterinary and human health within the regulatory sciences curriculum. Kovacek felt this unique structure would allow her the opportunity to transition to the human health side in the future.

Flexibility is the Key

Michelle works full-time, so she valued that the flexibility of the online format helped to complete her degree on her own timeline. She said her online degree allowed her, “the flexibility to take classes at a pace I was comfortable with, while continuing to gain experience in the field.”

Michelle said that the courses she took directly applied to her field and allowed her to continue growing her knowledge by directly applying her lessons. Michelle plans to continue gaining experience to advance her career in the animal health pharmaceutical regulatory affairs industry.

Attention Future Bulldogs

Michelle advised future students to “stay engaged” and to build connections and relationships with professors as much as possible. She encouraged that you not be afraid to reach out with any questions or ideas.

I owe much of my current success to the University of Georgia and the online program I completed,” said Michelle. “The program not only introduced me to a multitude of industry facets but also provided real-world experiential learning opportunities that complemented and enriched my academic pursuits.”
