Online Resources and Tips from UGA Students
Online Resources and Tips from UGA Students
UGA has a plethora of resources available online to assist in students’ success. We also have some amazing students who are more than happy to share their tips and tricks for success in an online course.
Take Advantage of Your Resources
There are countless apps and websites that are helpful when it comes to studying. Quizlet is an online resource/app that gives you the ability to create your own flashcard set and make personal quizzes, tests, and activities to help you learn the information. Timeout is an app that will slowly fade your screen out when it’s time for a break and bring it back when the break is over. Breaks are customizable and can be skipped if you’re on a roll. Other apps like Spotify, Headspace, and 7 Minute Workout can help clear your head if you need a break from studying. Additionally, use your professors and classmates if you have questions about the study material or if you need tips on other ways to study.
Distance Librarian
John Prechtel, UGA’s distance librarian, serves in the research and instruction department as a library liaison to faculty and students. In his role as the distance librarian, he helps online learners use library resources as much as possible and in the way that on-campus students do. Prechtel is able to assist students in locating and obtaining materials needed for courses or to assist with any research questions. If you have any questions about library services, he can answer those and will connect you with the best librarian subject-area specialist for in-depth questions. A recent 3 series webinar about libraries at a distance is available on UGA Online’s YouTube channel.
The next webinar is USG Webinar: Motivation and Gamification on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 am. Join us as UGA Libraries shows how to create engagement through gamification in a manner consistent with cognitive and motivational science. Register now!
EITS Services
The Enterprise Information Technology Services at UGA website will provide you with tips and help with your UGA accounts, Zoom accounts, and any technological difficulties you may be experiencing. The EITS Twitter account offers the latest updates to UGA and Zoom accounts including help on securing your accounts. EITS’ social media and online helpdesk are good ways to monitor updates and tips during a fully online semester.
ASPIRE Clinic
Since 2008, ASPIRE clinic has provided counseling and education services to the UGA community and has recently fully transitioned to telehealth services.
UGA Zoom Accounts
UGA students can create your own Zoom account and log into that account using your UGA MyID. A Getting Started Guide, Recommended Tips for Secure Meetings, and Troubleshooting Tips are also available on the EITS Help Desk Knowledge base.
Instructional videos and articles, as well as troubleshooting help, can also be found on Zoom’s website.
Each UGA unit has a contact for Zoom support. To find out the contact in your unit, please visit the Zoom Unit Contact listing or complete a Help Request.
Faculty and staff also have an account as part of UGA’s Zoom license.
