Alumna Profile: Bethany Marcinik Pursued Her Passion for Food to an Online MFT Degree

After nine years in the restaurant industry, Bethany Marcinik found herself in a dead-end job.  She knew she wanted to go back to school. Food was her passion, and the technology involved in food production was intriguing. A Master in Food Technology seemed to be the next step. After some research, all signs pointed to taking online classes at UGA.

UGA Online Professor to Release Book About Bilingual Learners

A book telling the compelling story of the challenges and opportunities of teaching science to English learners is scheduled for release in fall of 2016. Currently in the process of being published, the book is titled “Supporting K–12 English Language Learners in Science: Putting Research into Teaching Practice.” One of the book’s authors is Cory Buxton, a faculty member in the online M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education.

UGA Online Reading Ed Professor Appointed to Literacy Research Panel

Donna Alvermann, professor in the online Master of Education in Reading Education program, has been appointed to the International Literacy Association's (ILA) Literacy Research Panel (LRP) for a three-year term. She will also start her two-year appointment as the "Policy and Practice: Remix" columnist for the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy.

The Office of International Education honored two UGA Online Learning faculty and staff members at its annual International Education Awards Reception April 7 at the State Botanical Garden, with five other honorees. The annual event honors faculty and staff who have made outstanding contributions to the university's internationalization through instruction, research and service.

UGA Nationally Reaffirmed as a Top Military School

Once again, the University of Georgia has been nationally reaffirmed in 2016 as Military Friendly, Best for Vets and a Top Military College/University. Since the establishment of the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) in the spring of 2013, UGA has made significant progress in connecting student veterans to one another, as well as to campus and community resources. UGA continues to maintain active affiliation with both the Student Veterans of America and the Got Your Six campaign, where faculty and staff attend a training session to become certified as veteran-friendly.
