Spotlight on Student Services: University Testing Services

By: Yvette Leverett
Associate Director of University Testing Services

Welcome to University Testing Services (UTS), a department within the Division of Student Affairs. UTS takes great pride in providing a warm and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and surrounding community. Many times I’ve overheard students say, “No matter how much I prepare, it never feels like it’s enough!” Preparing to take a test can be a very stressful time in the life of any student. I encourage you to utilize our services and to view us as a valued link to your university support system. Online students receive many of the same benefits as traditional students, and testing services is just one of many. Not only do online students have access to proctoring for exams, they also have access to free tutoring services and library resources.

Quizzes and exams in online courses may require online proctoring, face-to-face proctoring or no proctoring at all. Online proctoring involves the use of technology to record student activity while taking an exam. It requires access to a computer with internet connectivity, a microphone and a webcam. Face-to-face proctoring is required in a few online courses and instructs you to go to an approved testing site to be proctored in person during your exam.

Your course syllabus and/or your instructor can give you information about what your specific course requires. Visit Testing Services for information on the administration of your online course exams. If your instructor requires face-to-face proctoring for any or all of your exams, you will work with University Testing Services to locate a testing site that is convenient to your location during the semester in which you are taking your online course. If you have any questions, please contact Testing Services at 1 (706) 542-3183. If you have special testing or learning needs, contact the UGA Disability Resource Center for further assistance or call 1 (706) 542-8719.

Remember, our desire is to assist you in having a pleasant testing experience!
