This year, the famous Peabody Awards ceremony will be hosted in Los Angeles for the first time in its 84-year history. Previously hosted in New York City, this year’s ceremony will take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on June 9th in LA.

Despite the new location of the ceremony, the history of the Peabody Awards has been intertwined with that of Grady College and the University since its inception in 1941. In fact, the awards were born and remain housed at Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication to this day. Seeking to inspire and educate future generations of creators, Grady now offers both Low-Residency MFA in Screenwriting and Low-Residency MFA in Narrative Nonfiction programs online.

The Peabody Awards aim to honor excellence in entertainment across a variety of mediums. Award categories span everything from documentaries to news, podcast/radio, arts, youth, and public service programming. More than just broad appeal, the awards are dedicated to honoring those pieces that reflect on pressing social issues and public interest topics, as well as highlighting emerging voices. Nominees will be announced in April with the winners following in May.

The award ceremony was previously scheduled to move to LA in 2023 but was ultimately postponed due to the Writers Guild of America strike. This ceremony will be the first in-person celebration since 2019.
