You might be a Bulldog if…

You might be a Bulldog if…

With graduation fast approaching, there’s still time to get in on some of the favorite Bulldog traditions. If you’re going to be in Athens for Commencement this Friday, take a look at these Bulldog traditions and try to complete them all. If you do, let us know! Tweet us at @UGAOnline1 and use #UGAOnlineGrad.

So, you might be a Bulldog if you…

1. …ring the Chapel Bell

A bell tower originally crowned the roof of the Chapel, but in 1913, it was removed due to structural issues. The bell, which rang for religious services, for the beginning and ending of classes, and in emergencies, was then housed in the wooden tower behind the Chapel where it still stands today.

The bell can be heard throughout downtown Athens and North Campus — be sure to ring the bell to mark athletic victories, academic accomplishments, and other special occasions. Next time you’re in Athens, give it a try!

2. …go to the Dawg Walk

The Dawg Walk happens two hours before the start of every home football game. The Tate Center parking lot is full of fans, cheerleaders, and the Redcoat Band, who cheer on the football team as the enter Sanford Stadium. The team exits the buses from Lumpkin Street and walks into the stadium through Gate 1 amidst a cheering crowd.

3. …you visit (and walk around) the Arch

One of the most popular photo spots on campus, the iconic Arch is the symbol of the University of Georgia. The Arch was installed in the 1800s and still stands as the gateway between North Campus and downtown Athens.

Recognized as one of the school’s finest icons, students today hold the Arch in high regard as its three pillars represent the virtues of wisdom, justice, and moderation. As a student and one day graduate of UGA, you should embody these qualities as you represent your institution. On strolls through North Campus or when your family comes to visit, be sure to snap a picture by the Arch.

4. …sit with Bernard Ramsey

Bernard B. Ramsey was one of UGA’s most charitable benefactors. His passing in 1996 executed a gift funding the Honors Program, the Foundation Fellows scholarships and the Ramsey Scholarship. Ramsey’s gifts also have endowed professorships and construction projects including the Performing Arts Center and the Butts-Mehre Athletic Heritage Hall. Portions of a gift from his estate also were allocated for the Bernard B. Ramsey Foundation Fellowship. Ramsey’s dedication to the university is honored by the Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities.

Today, there’s a statue of Mr. Ramsey on North Campus in front of Moore College. Grab a seat beside Bernard to study, or just enjoy the view.

5. …you call the Dawgs

Calling the Dawgs is one of the ultimate traditions that unifies Bulldogs all over. This chant is yelled at football games (and occasionally at concerts in downtown Athens.) Here’s how you do it:

Yell “Go” and holding the “o,” then yell “Dawgs” and chant “Sic ‘em! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!” Throw your arm up in a fist and wave it around as you call the Dawgs!

GOOOOOOOOO DAWGS, SIC ‘EM, WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF!
