Being prior military, securing a job was easy starting out, but my experience would not survive the recession and proved that a degree was imperative to withstand any economic changes moving forward.

If you are an online student veteran, active duty military, reservist or military dependent, the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) can ease your transition to UGA.

Educational Benefits

All degree programs and majors at UGA have been approved by the VA as eligible for educational benefits. We will help you navigate the information and applications for Veterans Educational Benefits available on the Veteran Administration website.

The Veteran Services unit of the Office of the Registrar has staff dedicated to assisting veterans, the military, and their dependents. Our VA Certifying Officials are experts at navigating the paperwork and will:

  • Advise you on your educational benefits
  • Process educational benefit forms and certifications
  • Provide information on UGA’s transfer equivalency, call to duty, and re-admission policies.

Information on Veterans Certification is available on the Registrar’s website. A VA Certifying Official can provide more information on services provided and can be contacted at va@uga.edu or 1 (706) 542-1842.

Admissions

UGA Admissions understands that not all students take the traditional path to college. Veterans seeking a bachelor’s degree can find additional information online from the Admissions Office’s Information for Veterans page. Please feel free to call 1 (706) 542-2112 or email us at veterans@uga.edu if you have any questions.

If you hope to transfer credits, visit the Transfer Equivalency page for more information about transfers.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

The University of Georgia is pleased to assist veterans in utilizing Veterans Affairs (VA) Education benefits to their best advantage. Throughout the benefit application and certification process, the University of Georgia acts as a liaison between the VA’s Regional Processing Office and student veterans or the dependents of veterans. More information is available in the Academics section of this page (scroll up) and on the Office of the Registrar’s Veterans Certification page.

Also, the SVRC hosts a growing number of scholarships and awards each year, and UGA provides a variety of financial aid options to students. Federal Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study, Federal Direct Student Loans, and scholarships are offered. In order to receive financial aid, a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed.

Path to Enrollment

The path to enrollment for veterans and their families is similar to the steps found in Getting Started.

You also will want to check your educational benefits as you begin. We have someone here at UGA readily available to guide you, but for your convenience, we offer the links for the following Educational Benefits:
