Student Veteran Profile: Jeremy Johns, BBA

After serving in the military, Jeremy Johns was ready to go back to school and had his eyes set on the University of Georgia. He was on track to transfer from Georgia Perimeter College to finish up his undergraduate degree in business at UGA. But when he was offered a job in Texas, Johns decided to complete his degree online at UGA. As a pipeline controller with unconventional shift times and a father of two, Johns felt an online degree program would give him the flexibility and learning experience that he needed. Johns is now about a year away from finishing his online Bachelor of Business Administration program.

UGA Nationally Reaffirmed as a Top Military School

Once again, the University of Georgia has been nationally reaffirmed in 2016 as Military Friendly, Best for Vets and a Top Military College/University. Since the establishment of the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) in the spring of 2013, UGA has made significant progress in connecting student veterans to one another, as well as to campus and community resources. UGA continues to maintain active affiliation with both the Student Veterans of America and the Got Your Six campaign, where faculty and staff attend a training session to become certified as veteran-friendly.

USDA Grants Funds to Online MFT Professor For Work on Nanocellulose & Digestion

University of Georgia food engineer and professor in the online Masters in Food Technology program Fanbin Kong has been awarded a $496,317 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture to study the safety of nanocellulose—a light, solid substance obtained from plant matter, generally wood pulp—and how it affects the way humans digest food and absorb nutrients.

UGA faculty learn to apply the Quality Matters rubric to online courses

Over 30 of the University of Georgia's faculty and staff who teach online courses participated in a Quality Matters workshop last semester offered through UGA's Office of Online Learning. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered, peer review process intended to promote the design and development of quality online courses, and the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric workshop introduces course designers to these standards. 

UGA Music Education Sends Eight to Kenya For Service-Learning Trip
